My Experience at AYIMUN Bangkok 2025

By: Melinda Tuntang – Grade 11 St. Ernest

AYIMUN, or Asia Youth International Model United Nations, is a Model UN conference organized by International Global Network, a youth development organization. It’s a simulation of the United Nations, designed to help young people develop skills in diplomacy, international relations, research, public speaking, debate, critical thinking, and leadership. A Youth International MUN aims to engage youth leaders from all over the world and to provide a platform to share perspectives and opinions in solving world issues.

Earlier this year, the IGN team visited Stella Maris School to introduce AYIMUN and share details about the upcoming event in Bangkok, scheduled for May 2–5. I was immediately interested and decided to sign up.

During registration, we were asked to select two councils and three preferred countries. Some of the councils available included UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) and WHO (World Health Organization), each focusing on important global issues related to children’s welfare and public health.

After choosing, we received our assigned council and country via email. The next step was to prepare a position paper—a short essay outlining our assigned country’s stance on the committee topics. This paper was submitted through a link provided by the AYIMUN team.

The Journey to Bangkok

I need to get ready and pack up to get ready to go to Bangkok, Thailand on May 2. On the flight to Bangkok I had a 5 hour transit in Malaysia before continuing to Bangkok. We  arrived in Bangkok then we were picked up by a bus to go to the hotel we stayed at and have the AYIMUN program there.

Once at the hotel, we registered, checked in, and changed into formal wear for the Gala Dinner, Opening Ceremony, Grand Symposium, and MUN 101 session. We had free time after that  so we could go anywhere ,but  because we had a long trip to  Bangkok and I am so tired, me and my roommate agreed not to go anywhere and just take some rest.

The Committee Sessions

The next morning began with breakfast followed by a full day of committee sessions. Each council met in its own designated room. We started with a General Briefing that introduced the day’s activities.

Then the next morning came and it was the day we had a full  Committee session. We started the day with Breakfast and then headed to the perspective room, each council is in a different room. Then we started with the General Briefing which talks about the introduction of what we will do  the whole day. Then we started the Committee session 1. In committee session 1 we discussed the  Introduction of delegates and committees,Overview of the agenda and rules of procedure and also Keynote speeches or presentations by guest speakers.

After the  session we had a coffee break then we continued with the  Committee session 2. In committee session 2 we start our General Debate, which includes Delegates present their country’s position on the agenda topics and Open floor for discussion where delegates can ask questions and engage in dialogue. In this session helps to establish the context and key issues surrounding the topics.

Then we had lunch break after that continued Committee session 3. In committee session 3 we were working in groups or in the AYIMUN program called Moderated Caucus. It is where the delegates break into smaller groups to discuss specific aspects of the agenda topics.

Moderated caucus allows for structured discussion with a set speaking time. Then delegates can draft resolutions or position papers during this time.

Then we had another coffee break, then we continued with  Committee session 4. In this 4th committee session we did the Drafting Resolutions, where delegates collaborate to write draft resolutions that address the issues discussed. This involves negotiating language, proposing amendments, and building consensus. The goal is to create a resolution that reflects the collective stance of the committee.

Lastly we have the  committee session 5, where we have the voting and Closing Session, where the delegates present their draft resolutions for debate and voting.

Amendments may be proposed and voted on. The session concludes with the adoption of resolutions and final remarks.

Then we ended the last session by taking pictures and videos together. After that  we had some free time and so Me and my roommate and my friend agreed to explore Bangkok and try some delicious food there. After that we head back to the hotel and have some rest.

Cultural Day and Farewell

The next day was where we have the city tour going to the Wat Arun temple and going to the market which is very big and famous in Bangkok. After we went there to explore and had some shopping too  we went back to the hotel  to prepare for the  gala dinner and closing ceremony. After that we had a free time and so me together with new friends we were 15 people altogether to find somewhere to eat but every place that we go there is close so in the end we ate at 7-eleven because everything was closed and go back to the hotel to pack for tomorrow flight back to Jakarta.

What I Gained from AYIMUN

Participating in AYIMUN was a life-changing experience. I developed valuable leadership, negotiation, and diplomacy skills. I also improved my public speaking, communication, and problem-solving abilities, and built a global network of passionate, like-minded young leaders.

This event not only deepened my understanding of world issues, but also empowered me to be more confident, collaborative, and globally minded.
