Let’s Celebrate Earth Day 2025
Written by: Ongky Wijayanti (Preschool Librarian)
Stella Maris Preschool Gading Serpong proudly hosts an annual Earth Day celebration. This year, we embrace the theme “Our Power, Our Planet,” which highlights the urgent need to raise awareness about the critical state of our environment, a condition exacerbated by years of unchecked pollution. Our event aims to inspire meaningful action towards a healthier and more sustainable future for everyone.

Several activities were organized to celebrate Earth Day 2025, including making piggy banks from milk cartons, saving money, sorting trash, and taking environmental actions. The first activity involved creating piggy banks. In March, students began by collecting milk cartons, which they later decorated. This hands-on task encouraged independence, as students crafted their piggy banks with minimal assistance from teachers. By using milk cartons as the primary material, the students embraced the recycling principle, transforming waste into something new and valuable.
The next activity involved saving money in piggy banks. From April 7 to April 30, 2025, students had the opportunity to decorate their piggy banks and save money. Each day, they brought coins from home to deposit, and they continued this meaningful practice at home until the end of April. This activity inspired students to cultivate respect as they honored their teachers’ encouragement to save consistently, even in small amounts.
The third activity focused on sorting trash. From March 24 to April 21, 2025, students participated in the important task of separating waste into designated bins for plastic and paper. This activity highlighted the essential role of conserving natural resources through responsible waste management. Through this hands-on experience, students learned about the significant impact of taking care of the environment through simple yet powerful actions.
The recent activities focused on environmental initiatives. Students and their parents demonstrated their ecological awareness by participating in activities such as watering plants, feeding pets, properly disposing of trash, and sorting waste. These efforts helped to foster a deeper sense of responsibility and connection to their surroundings.
The celebration reached its peak on Friday, April 25th, 2025, in Gethsemane. Students and their guardians collaborated to create innovative products from waste materials. The enthusiasm and dedication of all participants were evident as they crafted impressive items from recycled materials. Eight winners were recognized for their outstanding creations, with one winner selected from each class. These efforts showcased the potential of transforming waste into extraordinary products.
During the Earth Day celebration, Stella Maris School proudly announced the adoption of an orangutan named Jelapat. Jelapat lives in a forest school in Kalimantan, where the BOS Foundation cares for him. By adopting Jelapat for one year, Stella Maris School is taking a significant step in its commitment to orangutan conservation in Kalimantan. This initiative will undoubtedly have a meaningful impact on the preservation of these incredible creatures.
Let’s continue to show our love for the Earth by starting with small actions that can make a big difference!
