The Library That Feels Like Home

By: Eileen Widjaja (8B student) and Mr. Adam Bayu (Librarian)

One of the most special places in school for me is the Secondary Library. Whenever I walk inside, I feel calm and safe, like I’m entering a different world where everything is peaceful. It’s not just about reading books—it’s also about the feeling of comfort and joy that the library gives me.

The library has so many books that match my interests. Every time I finish one, there’s always another waiting for me to explore. I love the excitement of choosing a new story, opening the first page, and feeling like I’m about to go on an adventure. Sometimes, I even borrow books for my younger sister in Primary. We read the same story together and then talk about the characters or our favorite parts. It feels really nice to share something I love with her and makes reading even more meaningful.

I also really like the atmosphere of the library. It’s cozy, quiet, and relaxing. The chairs and tables make it easy to sit for hours without even realizing how fast time passes. Sometimes my friends and I study there together. We bring our books, help each other with assignments, and prepare for tests. We often stay until almost 4 p.m. before heading home. Studying in the library is different, I find it easier to concentrate, and we always feel motivated to do more.

Of course, there are rules in the library, and I understand why they exist. No food or eating is allowed so that everything stays clean and neat. Being quiet is also very important, because many students come there to read or study, and they need silence to focus. The library closes at 4:30 p.m., which is a good time because it gives us the chance to finish reading or working on assignments before leaving school.

For me, the Secondary Stella Maris Library is not just a room filled with shelves of books. It’s a place that feels like home, where I can escape stress, learn new things, and grow in my love for reading. It’s also a place where I’ve shared special moments with my sister and my friends. Every time I step into the library, I feel thankful to have such a wonderful space in my school, and I know I will carry these memories with me for a long time.
