Explore Your Artistry At Stella Maris School Gading Serpong

Art isn’t just a form of expression, but a skill that shapes our lives in ways that we often overlook. In a world where technology continues to thrive and efficiency is prioritized, we tend to forget that all these innovations began with the imagination of a human. These ideas were brought to life through our own hands and that’s what makes art so powerful. It isn’t only a drawing on paper—it is in everything, and has always benefited us, whether it is connecting people through music, designing machinery and day-to-day products that enhance convenience or to document the world’s history through sculptures and portraits of influential figures.

However, creation isn’t easy to make and requires a lot of understanding and practice—which is why Stella Maris School Gading Serpong provides art classes. These sessions occur weekly and last for 80 minutes, during which we are taught all the basics of art and gradually progress to more complex topics—from drawing shapes and learning how to shade, to using different media and understanding perspectives. Stella Maris also offers Art IGCSE for students who are especially interested in the subject. In Art IGCSE, we learn how to make art preparations that allow us to experiment and assess our own artworks based on the theme options given. As of currently, 4 art preparations had to be produced within 3 months and during the exam, we were given three days to compose a final artwork based on the preparations.

Our art teacher for IGCSE, Mr. Erwin, was very easy-going and approachable. Every once a week after school, Art IGCSE participants had additional art lessons where Mr. Erwin elaborated all the rules and guidelines of the entire program and gave us some helpful tips. Whenever we had any questions, he would always explain to us in a clear, understandable way. Often times, he liked suggesting on what we could improve in our art without being critical and encouraged us to investigate more in our creations. He was also very patient with us, which makes me believe he was fit to be a great art teacher.

Personally, I love creating art and liked the experience of being able to freely experiment in the art preparations while still following the chosen theme. The Art IGCSE has encouraged me to manage my time and prioritize things better. It pushed me to produce art pieces with consistency in the quality while continuously improving and evaluating my work. The journey has really challenged my creativity, energy and efficiency, but nevertheless, I enjoyed every process and moment spent in the Art IGCSE.
