Navigating The Digital Transformation Landscape for The Process of Learning

Digital transformation in education plays a vital role in providing high-quality education and equal opportunities to learners all over the world. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, over 1.5 billion students have switched to online education. Educational institutions and governments develop digital transformation plans and implement necessary changes to make the learning process smooth and seamless for every student.

Virtual Reality is one of the leading technology components enabling digital transformation in education. In education, virtual reality (VR) is a simulated experience of a three-dimensional environment, allowing students to look around, move, and interact with their surroundings.

Virtual reality lets students learn through experience. Using virtual and augmented reality as immersive learning tools, students can travel the world, explore the impossible, delve deep into complex concepts, and experience learning directly in the palm of their hands – from a safe, secure, and familiar classroom environment. These incredible opportunities mean there are so many advantages to use virtual reality in education, especially in Science. VR can be a more effective learning tool for example, by immersing students in the lesson, virtual reality creates more associations between subjects and environments and helps them better understand, engage with and remember concepts.

This technology enables students to experience otherwise impossible scenarios, such as taking a dive with sharks or a get up close and personal with a bald eagle all from the comfort of their classroom. In a Science class, students may simulate how gravity affects the world around us and experience first-hand what it would be like to walk on the Moon or another celestial body. Students may go for a virtual field trip to see how wind farms generate electricity or understand a particle accelerator’s inner workings. In addition, students may carry out science experiments that would be dangerous or difficult to replicate in real life.
