Goal-Setting Conference to Support Grade 12 IB Students: A Pathway to Success
In early October 2024, Stella Maris Gading Serpong held its annual Goal-Setting Conference for Grade 12 students enrolled in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program. This event serves as a crucial moment for students, their subject teachers, the Diploma Program Coordinator (DPC), the school counselor, and parents to reflect on the students’ academic, social, and behavioral development over the academic year. The aim of this conference is to provide a platform for all stakeholders to collaborate and ensure that students are on track for success in their IB journey.
During the conference, each of the six subject teachers provided valuable feedback on students’ work, assessments, progress on Internal Assessments (IA), and Extended Essays (EE). In addition, teachers offered constructive feedback on students’ study habits, identifying both strengths and areas that needed improvement. These insights not only give students a clear understanding of where they stand academically but also empower them to take ownership of their learning. Students were encouraged to address any concerns they had in specific subjects and to strive for improvement and consistency, which are key factors in achieving success in the IB program.
One of the core goals of the conference is to help students prepare for the upcoming IB exams. The feedback provided by teachers plays a vital role in guiding students toward refining their approach to studying and managing their workload. By addressing the specific challenges each student faces, the conference helps tailor a strategy that enhances their performance in exams and, ultimately, their chances of gaining admission to prestigious universities.
Achieving academic success, however, is not solely the responsibility of students. The active involvement of parents is a crucial element in this process. Parents are encouraged to engage in discussions with their child’s teachers, voicing any concerns or questions they may have regarding their child’s progress. This collaboration ensures that parents are equipped with the tools and knowledge they need to monitor their child’s academic journey at home. By working closely with teachers, parents can offer the right kind of support, helping their children stay focused and motivated.
This Goal-Setting Conference not only provides an opportunity for academic reflection but also addresses the emotional and social challenges that come with being an IB student. With the collective efforts of teachers, parents, and the students themselves, the conference ensures that Grade 12 students at Stella Maris Gading Serpong are well-prepared to meet the demands of their final year and achieve their academic and personal goals.
