Bridging Classroom Learning with Real-World Experience:
Stella Maris Internship Program
At Stella Maris School, education goes beyond textbooks and examinations. Rooted in its vision of nurturing lifelong learners with strong entrepreneurial character and Christian values, the school continues to design meaningful programs that prepare students for life beyond the classroom. One of the most impactful initiatives is the Grade 10 Internship Program, a hands-on experience that immerses students in real workplace environments.
Designed for both IGCSE and IB students, the internship program provides a unique opportunity for Grade 10 learners to step into the professional world and develop essential 21st-century skills. Whether through a six-day IGCSE placement or a more extended IB internship spanning multiple weeks and phases, the program emphasizes experiential learning as a key component of student growth.
Students are placed in a variety of industries, ranging from healthcare and hospitality to media, education, and corporate sectors. Partner organizations have included well-known companies such as PLN, Ekles Clinic, Prasetya Mulya, and Damai Indah Golf, among others. Through these placements, students gain exposure to different career pathways while understanding workplace expectations and culture.
During the internship, students engage directly in their assigned companies, gaining firsthand experience in professional environments. This structured experience challenges them to adapt, communicate effectively with colleagues, and take responsibility for assigned tasks. More importantly, it encourages the development of soft skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking skills that are increasingly vital in today’s dynamic global landscape.
For IB students, the internship is further aligned with the school’s broader educational roadmap focusing on Faith, Skills, and Character. Conducted in two phases across the academic year, the program allows students to reflect on their learning and growth over time. It also integrates directly with their Business Management studies, particularly in areas such as marketing and business development. Similarly, IGCSE students connect their internship experience with Business Studies, reinforcing classroom concepts through real-world application.
Assessment is an integral part of the program. Students are required to submit a comprehensive internship report along with documentation of their experience. Additionally, their performance is evaluated by the host companies, providing authentic feedback on their work and professional conduct. This evaluation process ensures accountability while also recognizing student effort and achievement in a real-world context.
Beyond skill development, the internship program plays a crucial role in shaping students’ character. By navigating real-life challenges, students learn resilience, adaptability, professionalism, and ethical decision-making. These experiences help cultivate a mindset of responsibility and independence, qualities that will benefit them in higher education and future careers.
Parental support remains a key factor in the success of this initiative. As students step out of their comfort zones and into the working world, encouragement from home reinforces their confidence and motivation. The school works closely with parents to ensure that students are well-prepared and supported throughout the process.
Ultimately, the Grade 10 Internship Program at Stella Maris is more than just an academic requirement it is a transformative journey. By bridging the gap between theory and practice, the program empowers students to discover their interests, build essential life skills, and take their first steps toward becoming future-ready individuals.
